Non-Accredited Courses:

Short Beauty Courses

These are courses their learning and training process do not take long. They are usually finished in a day or 5 days maximum. The courses include the following:

Eyelash Grafting

This course lasts for a day and involves training on one of the latest and hottest trends in the beauty world. It involves the application of eyelash extensions or false lashes to the natural lash. You will be taught how to use single synthetic polyester fibres and bond it on to the natural lash so as to make it look thicker and longer, while having a natural curl finish.

Spray tanning

This course lasts between 1 and 2 days. It is another highly sought-after beauty treatment and involves flawless spray tan applications. You will receive theory as well as practical techniques that will prepare you for the industry.

Body and facial waxing

This course has duration of 5 days and may include the following topics: preparation of room, trolley and clients, equipment and procedure, health hygiene and safety, safe use of electrical equipment and waxing, alternative methods of depilation, anatomy and physiology, benefits of waxing, consultation and record cards, aftercare advice etc.

Brazilian waxing

The course lasts for a day and teaches lessons and practical session on Brazilian waxing (partial or total genital hair removal). It entails the following lessons: equipment and products, health hygiene and safety, preparation of service area, alternative methods of depilation, safe use of electrical and waxing equipment, post-treatment procedures, aftercare advice, etc.

Eyelash and eyebrow tinting

The course is for a day and covers topics like implementation and product, health hygiene and safety, preparation of room, trolley and client, skin and surrounding area and eye condition, skin testing, shaping and tidy, benefits, aftercare advice, etc.

Other short beauty courses include – hot stone therapy (3 days), eyelash perming (1-2 days), manicure or pedicure (5 days each), ear piercing (1-2 days).

Refresher courses are also offered in short beauty courses. It is designed for those who are already qualified as beauty therapists but wish to stay up to date with the latest trends.

At the end of the courses, you will be issued with a certificate of attendance.

Online Beauty Courses

Online beauty courses are perfect for aspiring and existing beauty therapists who want to master new techniques and skills in beauty. Here, distance is no barrier as all lessons are done online and tutorial videos.

These courses cover almost every aspect of beauty treatments such as:

• Makeup
• Facials
• Threading
• Waxing
• Spray tanning
• Eyebrow waxing
• Eyelash tinting
• Eyebrow shaping, etc

You will receive your courses online via detailed ebooks and tutorial videos. The videos contain a step by step guide that will feel like the instructor is physically present.  You will be issued a diploma at the end of your training.

1 Day Beauty Skills Workshops

The skills workshop is suitable for existing beauty therapists who want to brush their skills and learn new skills and techniques. Or to stay abreast of the latest trend in the industry. It is also good for beginners who are still contemplating a career in beauty.

Some of the courses covered in 1-day beauty skills workshop include eyelash extensions, lash lifting and tinting, tanning, waxing, etc.

You will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the workshop.

Accredited Courses:

These are courses that are fully recognised and are taught in colleges and accredited beauty colleges. They are:

Certificate 4 in Beauty Therapy

Certificate 4 in Beauty Therapy (SHB40115) is a comprehensive course designed to give you a solid background in all things beauty. This course will help you act and speak authoritatively on both beauty products and treatments.

The course provides all you need to step out into the world of beauty as a beauty therapist. During your lessons and training, you will learn how to perform the following:

• Body treatments
• Body massage
• Facial treatments
• Waxing treatments
• Lash and brow treatments
• Makeup design and application
• Manicure and pedicure services
• Spray tanning
• Advanced facial treatments
• Safe hygiene and work practices
• Selling and demonstrating retail cosmetic and skin care products

Expert beauty artists will also teach you how to work efficiently and effectively while applying the principals of skin biology when conducting treatment.

This course is the perfect course for those who want to become real beauty experts. The course will help you to be highly employable after your training.

With a certificate 4 in beauty, you will be able to specialise in different unique beauty treatments such as:

Diploma of Beauty Therapy

Diploma of beauty therapy (SHB50115) is designed to teach you the required knowledge and skills to become a professional beauty therapist.

The course will bring you up to speed so that you will be abreast of the latest developments in the beauty industry. In addition to beauty therapy courses, you will also learn various holistic approaches obtainable in modern beauty, wellbeing, and nutrition.

During the course, you will be exposed to a wide range of beauty therapy skills that are relevant to the industry such as:

• Nail services
• Makeup
• Hair removal
• Lash and brow services
• Relaxation massage
• Spa therapy
• Facial and body treatments
• Micro-dermabrasion
• Waxing
• Manicures and pedicures
• Electrolysis treatments
• Advice on selling cosmetic and retail skin care products

You will also learn important business and management skills. The duration of the course is usually for 1 year and includes work placement. You can choose to study it on a full-time or part-time basis. At the completion of the course, you will be awarded Diploma of Beauty Therapy SHB50115.

Diploma in Salon Management

The aim of this training is to teach you the skills and knowledge required to set up and manage a successful business. It will also enable you to develop and lead a team, design and establish personal services culture, ensure compliance with all safety, relevant work and health protocol.

The diploma will ensure that you are qualified and competent in managing and running a business involved in sales and services at spas, beauty and hairdressing salons.

After the course, you will be able to perform as a manager who can coordinate and supervise others as well as ongoing human resources development.

Your duties will also extend to customer service, financial management, marketing, policy-making, and planning.

You must complete the following course unit to get your diploma:

• Provide a safe work environment
• Lead teams in a personal services environment
• Manage recruitment selection and induction processes
• Review human resources functions
• Manage small business finances
• Manage personal, business, family, and cultural obligations
• Manage professional development and personal work priorities
• Manage sales delivery and treatment services
• Promote a personal services business
• Develop policy and procedure for sustainability in a workplace

To qualify for this course study, you are to possess Certificate IV and be able to demonstrate your skills through your work experience, etc.

The course lasts for one year (12 months). If successful at the end of the programme, you will receive Diploma of Salon Management (SHB50216).

What beauty skills do you require?

There is more to being a beauty therapist than just looking and appearing pretty. You should be someone that is easy to trust so that people can put their confidence in you that they are in good hands.

You should have human relations skills so that you can handle disgruntled and unsatisfied clients. You must also be a timekeeper. If you are meant to assume work at a particular time, be there. It speaks badly of you if you are someone that keeps a client waiting.

You need to be creative and carve a niche for yourself. It is also important that you be a good listener. There are times your client will bore you with their tales. As a professional, you should be able to take it without showing your frustration or disinterest.

You must be someone that is sympathetic, kind and understanding of your clients, colleagues, and subordinates.

You should be able to make clients feel at home when they visit your workstation or you are rending home services. Give them a reason to keep choosing you above every other beauty therapist.

And lastly, while searching for a beauty school, salon or institution to enroll in, focus on quality than quantity. If a beauty school promises to teach you 10 courses for a fraction of what most institutions are charging, you need to be sure that they are of good quality before going with them.
